Nonno’s favorite Delicious, Quick & Easy to make Banana Loaf

This is a quick and easy banana loaf recipe handed down from our Zia Diana, that Nonno loves to eat and Nanna makes. It is a delicious dessert after almost any meal and requires very few simple ingredients.

What you will need to make Nonno’s favorite Delicious, Quick & Easy to Banana Loaf: (Makes one Banana Loaf)

  • 4 overripe bananas (discounted overripe bananas from your local grocers, inexpensive & work great!)
  • A loaf pan (Nanna uses one that is 12″ long X 6″ wide X 3″ deep)

  • ¼ cup softened salted butter
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 ½ cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Saran wrap
  • Tin foil

(Optional, ¼ cup of pecans, walnuts  or chocolate chips)

How to make Nonno’s favorite Delicious, Quick & Easy Banana Loaf, like Nanna does:

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F
  2. Blend butter with the sugar
  3. Add beaten eggs
  4. Gradually add in flour and baking soda and continue mixing (Optional, add in ¼ cup of pecans, walnuts or chocolate chips and mix well)
  5. Mash the bananas and add to the mix, continue mixing
  6. Grease and flour a loaf pan
  7. Add mixture to loaf pan, level out
  8. Bake for approximately one hour (check center to ensure baked, with a toothpick) and remove from oven
  9. Let sit for 10 minutes
  10. While loaf is still warm, remove from pan and completely wrap with Saran Wrap
  11. Immediately completely wrap the loaf in tin foil

*Steps 10 and 11 help to ensure that you have a moist banana loaf

Magnifico! You now have a delicious, moist banana loaf that can be topped off with butter while still warm.  At our house, we call this the king of bread.

  1. This sounds amazing! Instead of using the pecans or walnuts, we tend to use chocolate chips as well. My mom has been making this bread forever, and it always come out great. If I remember my mom’s recipe correctly, she tends to use a little bit more butter than 1/4 soften salted butter, but I wonder how it would taste with your recipe. Can’t wait til try this one! Thanks.

      Thank you for visiting nonnoknowsbest.com and your feedback on Nonno’s favorite Banana Loaf recipe. I prefer the chocolate chips too, sometimes Nanna uses butterscotch chips, they are good too. 

      I should have stressed (Nanna did) how important it is to wrap the Loaf while it is still piping warm with Saran Wrap and then with the tin foil – that really makes a difference in how moist the Loaf turns out.
